Fodder Crops and Amenity Grasses
Fodder crops and amenity grasses play a key role in agriculture and landscape management. Globally, grasslands and fodder crops used for livestock feed cover about 32.1 Million km2, representing roughly 67% of the world’s agricultural land. Beyond agriculture, amenity grasses are essential for urban green spaces, sports fields, and erosion control, contributing to ecosystem services and landscape stability.
Mission of Fodder Crops and Amenity Grasses Section is to provide the up-to-date knowledge on the genetics, physiology, ecology, biotechnology and breeding of forage grasses and legumes, as well as turf grasses. Special attention is paid to develop and strengthen a bridge connecting basic and applied research including plant breeding. We fully believe that only synergy between these two (not necessarily clearly distinguished) groups can help in effective mitigation of the impact of climate changes.
FCAG section conferences are held every second year (the next planned for 2027 in Malmo, Sweden) and usually cover topics related to:
- Genetic resources and natural diversity
- Advanced phenotyping and genotyping technologies
- Qualitative and quantitative traits
- Biotic and abiotic stresses
- Polyploidy and hybridization
